FAQ

Short answers to the questions people ask first about Nistor — licence, languages, where it runs, what is open source.

Is Nistor open source?#

Yes. This project — the core, the platform services, every tool, the web shell and the clients — is under the Apache License 2.0. Commercial plugins (the Enterprise modules) are distributed separately, and they use the same entry points and contracts as any other plugin (see Concepts).

In which languages is Nistor available?#

English only in 1.0. The web shell, the API's messages and this documentation are in English. Other languages are not planned before a customer asks for one.

Where can I run it?#

  • On your machine, with Docker Compose: see the Quickstart.
  • On Google Cloud, in your own project, with the reference Terraform root: see Install on GCP.

The reference infrastructure for 1.0 is Google Cloud: Cloud Run, Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, Pub/Sub, Secret Manager and Identity-Aware Proxy.

Which systems does it connect to?#

Google Cloud (BigQuery and related services), MicroStrategy, SAP HANA (through MicroStrategy), Sifflet, Castor, GitLab, Google Workspace and ODCS data contracts. See Integrations. To connect another system, write a tool: see Writing a tool.

How do people sign in?#

With Google identities, through Identity-Aware Proxy in front of the web shell. Other identity providers are not supported in 1.0. See Identity and access.

Does Nistor change my data?#

Most integrations only read. The ones that act (refreshing a MicroStrategy cube, running a Dataform workflow, commenting on a merge request) do it from rules you write, with the permissions you give the connection. Each integration's page says what it reads and what it does.

How do I upgrade, and can I go back?#

One minor release at a time, with a backup first. Migrations only move forward: going back means restoring the backup with the previous images. See Upgrading.

Where do I report a security problem?#

Privately, as the security policy explains. Not in a public issue.

Something does not work#

Start with Troubleshooting: it lists the messages Nistor prints, with their cause and fix.
